The Dream Keepers Foundation Derby Day Party was more than just an event—it was a celebration of community, fellowship, and a shared commitment to investing in the future of our youth. Thanks to the incredible support of our sponsors, partners, volunteers, and hundreds of guests, this scholarship fundraiser was a tremendous success.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our presenting venue sponsor, Teague Stables, for providing the perfect setting for an unforgettable Derby experience. We also thank Herb's Fresh Cuisine for delivering an exceptional culinary experience, Pour Decision Mobile Bartender for keeping spirits high with outstanding service, and DJ Just Twuan for creating an atmosphere filled with energy, music, and celebration throughout the day.

"Dream 13" Kappa Leaguers Attend Leadership Conference in Bronx, NY

On March 2, 2024, the Dream 13 Kappa League program of the Dover (DE) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. attended the Northeastern Province Kappa League Leadership Conference (KLLC) at SUNY Maritime College in Bronx, New York. The Bronx (NY) Alumni Chapter hosted the conference, which included more than 500 Kappa Leaguers, mentors, and parents from Germany, the United Kingdom, Maine, Vermont, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Delaware. 13 Kappa Leaguers attended from our chapter along with 10+ parents and mentors.

The conference included multiple guest speakers, panelists, workshops, and a tour of the ship at the host site. SUNY Maritime College provided a unique experience as it prepares dynamic leaders for the global marine transportation, shipping, finance, armed forces, public service, and STEM industries. One of the first speakers of the day was Bronx Borough President, Vanessa L. Gibson, who acknowledged March 2, 2024 as Kappa League Day in the Bronx. National Guide Right Director Kevin Burnett attended the conference and provided insight on the Kappa League program along with encouragement for the Kappa Leaguers in attendance.

The Kappa Leaguers, parents, and mentors were separated into different tracks for the day, which allowed relatable, productive conversations tailored for each specific group. The workshops for the Kappa Leaguers were related to STEM activities. The panel was comprised of current students at SUNY Maritime College, who explained their experience and answered questions from the audience. The tour of the ship was very insightful. We learned about the daily duties for each grade, the purpose and uses of the ship, and how it prepares students for opportunities post-graduation.

The day ended with a group photo with all Kappa Leaguers. The conference was a success and provided extensive opportunities to learn and network with those in attendance. We enjoyed our time and look forward to attending future conferences.

The holidays are a time when food insecurity is often overlooked. On December 18, 2021, the Dream Keepers Foundation partnered with M&J S.W.A.T. Community Service Organization; Food Bank of Delaware, Kingdom Empowerment Church, Mountaire Farms, and the Dover (DE) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. to distribute dinner boxes filled items to ensure more than (90) deserving families would be able to gather over a meal.

Dream 13 Kappa Leaguers Kickoff A Weekend of Learning And Professional Development At NBA Headquarters

The Dream 13 Kappa League program had a full weekend of Leadership and Development activities, including a visit to the National Basketball Association (NBA) Commissioner’s Office to meet NBA Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum, and a Career Day to learn about career opportunities in professional sports beyond the court and the professional lives of Brothers from Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated.

The Commissioner’s Office visit took place on Friday, November, 10th, in New York City at the NBA Headquarters. The NBA staff provided a tour of the office ; a presentation of the business side of the NBA, and held a panel discussion about their career pathways and direct experiences working at the NBA Head Office. The highlight of the tour was a Q&A session with Mark Tatum, where the Kappa Leaguers learned about his career and important steps that assisted him in earning the role of Deputy Commissioner of the NBA.

The Dream 13 Kappa League held a Career Day on Sunday, November, 12th, at the Dover Public Library, where 10 Brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi shared their current job and previous work experience. Each Kappa member provided key lessons that helped them along their way and answered questions posed by the Kappa Leaguers. There was an array of job fields presented including Social Work, Fraud Investigation, Computer Science, Human Resources, Education, Military, Aerospace Engineering, Sales, and Marketing. As the Dream 13 Kappa League moves forward this year, members of Kappa Alpha Psi look forward to helping the Kappa Leaguers apply the leadership skills discussed to assist them in any field they desire to pursue.
