Building the Leaders of Tomorrow: Dover Alumni Chapter Launches the 2026–2027 "Dream 13" Kappa League

Great leadership isn't born overnight—it is built through dedicated mentorship, clear guidance, and strong community support. The Dover Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. is opening applications for the 2026–2027 cohort of our flagship Guide Right mentoring program: The "Dream 13" Kappa League .

Designed specifically for rising high school freshmen in Delaware, the Kappa League equips young men with the tools, confidence, and vision needed to navigate high school, excel in higher education, and thrive in their future careers.

What Is the "Dream 13" Kappa League?

The national Kappa League initiative focuses on total youth development. Our local program provides structured, hands-on experiences across four core pillars:

Academic Achievement & College Readiness: College visits, SAT/ACT prep orientation, and study strategy workshops.
Character & Leadership Development: Training in personal accountability, public speaking, and professional etiquette.
Career Motivation: Access to professional networks, resume building, and exposure to diverse career tracks.
Community Service & Civic Engagement: Local volunteer initiatives designed to foster civic responsibility.

Program Induction Criteria

To ensure candidates are aligned with the expectations of the cohort, applicants must meet the following eligibility standards:

Requirement Details Residency Must reside within the Kent County, DE service area . Academic Level Entering 9th grade (Class of 2030) for the 2026–2027 academic year. GPA Standard Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale). Documentation Copy of standard academic transcript (official or unofficial). Personal Essay One-page typed essay answering: "What does leadership mean to you, and how do you demonstrate it in your school or local community?"

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and total space within the "Dream 13" cohort is strictly limited to ensure individualized attention for every participan t.

Rain Couldn’t Stop the Dream: Our 3rd Annual Backpack Giveaway, Community, Partnership, and Service Shine Through the Storm

On Saturday, August 22, 2026, Dream Keepers Foundation, Inc. hosted our 3rd Annual Dr. Terrance D. Newton Sr. Backpack Giveaway at Transformation Church in Dover, Delaware. We planned for backpacks, food, music, haircuts, community resources, and plenty of fun. What we didn't plan for was the rain! Heavy rain arrived Saturday morning, but one thing quickly became clear: our mission was bigger than the weather.

Families still came. Volunteers still served. The grill stayed hot. The music kept playing. Backpacks were distributed. Kids received haircuts. Community partners provided resources and refreshments. The weather tested us. The community answered. And together, we got it done.More Than Just a Backpack. The Dr. Terrance D. Newton Sr. Backpack Giveaway has always been about more than handing a child a new backpack.

For Dream Keepers Foundation, it is about helping students walk into a new school year feeling **prepared, confident, supported, and encouraged. Families were able to receive backpacks and school supplies while enjoying food, refreshments, music, giveaways, haircuts from Chris the Mobile Barber, prayer, fellowship, and access to community organizations and resources. Even in the rain, there were smiles, laughter, dancing, conversations, and people helping one another. That's what community looks like. Our Partners Made It Possible , An event like this doesn't happen because of one organization. It happens when people decide to work together for something bigger than themselves.

We extend a special thank you to Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. – Dover Alumni Chapter and Pi Eta Chapter for providing food, chips, and water for our families. The Brothers stayed at the grill through the rain and made sure our guests were fed. Special recognition goes to Brother Haynes and the Vice Polemarch Gamble for putting their grilling skills to work!

Bring U Nutrition provided energy drink mocktails and hydration drinks for our families and young people—and stayed with us until the rain literally had their feet wet.

DJ Just Twuan refused to let the weather control the atmosphere. The music kept playing, and before long, we were dancing in the rain.

Dover Community Pharmacy provided sneaker gift cards, giving several young people an extra surprise as they prepared for the new school year.

Community Cares of Delaware and Tracy Palmer Ministries helped provide backpacks for our children and demonstrated exactly why community partnerships matter when circumstances don't go according to plan.

We are also grateful to every volunteer, vendor, organization, sponsor, and supporter who contributed to this year's event. We recognize that the severe weather prevented some of our scheduled partners from joining us in person, but their willingness to support our mission is sincerely appreciated. A New Home and a New Partnership. This year's event also marked the beginning of what we hope will become a lasting relationship with Transformation Church.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Pastor Davis and First Lady Mary for opening the church's doors to Dream Keepers Foundation and the families we serve. Their hospitality gave us a place to bring together families, volunteers, community organizations, and neighbors for a day centered on service. We hope families who were introduced to Transformation Church through our event will return, worship, fellowship, and perhaps find a new church home.

Building Partnerships That Last

One of the most important lessons from this year's event is that strong communities are built through strong partnerships. Dream Keepers Foundation isn't interested in simply working with organizations for one event and then saying goodbye. We want to build relationships that continue throughout the year. Our work includes youth development, the Dream 13 Kappa League Program, scholarships, educational opportunities, community service projects, holiday outreach, and other initiatives designed to strengthen children and families.We invite businesses, churches, community organizations, civic groups, volunteers, and individual supporters to become part of what we're building.

We're Already Looking Toward Next Year. We learned a lot from this year's event—including a few lessons Mother Nature taught us personally! Those lessons will help us improve. Our goal for next year's Dr. Terrance D. Newton Sr. Backpack Giveaway Event is simple: Bigger. Better. More prepared. More partnerships. More resources. More children served. Most importantly, we want every child who attends to know that there is a community standing behind them and cheering for their success. To everyone who donated, volunteered, cooked, played music, cut hair, provided backpacks, sponsored giveaways, shared resources, opened doors, stood in the rain, or simply helped spread the word:

Dream Keepers Foundation, Inc. Dream 13 Leadership Excellence Scholarship Background

The Scholarship Application is due by April 15, 2027

The Dream 13 Leadership Excellence Scholarship was established by the Dream Keepers Foundation, Inc. to recognize outstanding young man who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the principles of the Guide Right Program and the Dream 13 Kappa League.

The scholarship honors students who have embraced mentorship, academic achievement, leadership, community service, and personal development while preparing themselves for success beyond high school.

The Dream 13 program is built upon the national Guide Right initiative of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., whose mission is to help young men discover their purpose, develop leadership skills, and become productive citizens capable of making meaningful contributions to their families, schools, and communities.

This scholarship celebrates those young men who have fully embraced that mission.

Rather than recognizing grades alone, the Dream 13 Leadership Excellence Scholarship rewards the complete student—one who demonstrates character, integrity, perseverance, accountability, and a genuine desire to improve the lives of others.

Recipients are expected to exemplify the Seven Phases of Kappa League:

Training

Competition

Social Development

Health Education

Economic Empowerment & Financial Education

College & Career Readiness

The scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating Dream 13 participant who has distinguished himself through leadership, academic commitment, service to others, and active participation in Dream 13 programming.

Required Application Materials

Applicants must submit:

Completed scholarship application.

Official high school transcript.

One letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, employer, coach, or mentor.

One letter of recommendation from a community, civic, or faith-based leader.

Resume highlighting leadership, extracurricular activities, employment, volunteer service, and awards.

Proof of acceptance or enrollment in a post-secondary program.

The Dream Keepers Foundation proudly presents the Ira Marche` Ambassador Scholarship in honor of the life and legacy of Brother Ira Marche` an entrepreneur, mentor, community leader, Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and a man whose life exemplified leadership, service, integrity, and compassion.

Brother Marche` believed that true success was measured not by personal accomplishments alone, but by the lives you inspired, the communities you strengthened, and the opportunities you created for others. Throughout his life, he demonstrated that strength is found in character, perseverance, humility, generosity, and a willingness to serve.

The Ira Marche` Ambassador Scholarship recognizes students who embody these same qualities and are committed to becoming ambassadors of positive change in their schools, communities, and future professions.

Scholarship Purpose

The Ira Marche` Ambassador Scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving student who demonstrates leadership, academic commitment, community involvement, and a genuine desire to serve others.

The ideal recipient reflects the values that defined Brother Ira Marche:

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

Be a graduating high school senior or currently enrolled college or trade school student.

Have a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA.

Be accepted to or enrolled in an accredited college, university, or trade school.

Reside in the State of Delaware (preference may be given to Kent County residents).

Demonstrate leadership through school, church, athletics, employment, or community organizations.

.Complete a minimum of 25 documented hours of community service within the past two years.

The Dream Keepers Foundation Derby Day Party was more than just an event—it was a celebration of community, fellowship, and a shared commitment to investing in the future of our youth. Thanks to the incredible support of our sponsors, partners, volunteers, and hundreds of guests, this scholarship fundraiser was a tremendous success.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our presenting venue sponsor, Teague Stables, for providing the perfect setting for an unforgettable Derby experience. We also thank Herb's Fresh Cuisine for delivering an exceptional culinary experience, Pour Decision Mobile Bartender for keeping spirits high with outstanding service, and DJ Just Twuan for creating an atmosphere filled with energy, music, and celebration throughout the day.

Most importantly, we thank the hundreds of guests who attended and supported our mission. Dream Keepers Giveaway Christmas Dinner Boxes

The holidays are a time when food insecurity is often overlooked. On December 18, 2021, the Dream Keepers Foundation partnered with M&J S.W.A.T. Community Service Organization; Food Bank of Delaware, Kingdom Empowerment Church, Mountaire Farms, and the Dover (DE) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. to distribute dinner boxes filled items to ensure more than (90) deserving families would be able to gather over a meal.
